Taxxons
Armored insectoid warriors enslaved by the Yeerk war machine.
The Taxxons are a hardy, insectoid species native to the planet Taxxon Prime in the Animorphs universe. Originally an independent civilization, they were conquered and enslaved by the Yeerk Empire centuries ago. Now serving as brutal shock troops, they are deployed across the galaxy to enforce Yeerk rule on conquered worlds, including Earth.

Lore & Background
The Yeerks infest Taxxons just as they do humans or other species, using the worm's control to direct their aggression. However, because of their complex physiology and strong instincts, some Taxxons retain a degree of resistance to total mental domination. This has led to occasional uprisings on occupied worlds, where uninfested members plot against their masters.
In Their Own Story
The alley smelled of wet garbage and ozone. Jake signaled for silence as the ground began to vibrate. From the shadows emerged the clicking sound of chitin on concrete. A Taxxon stepped into the moonlight, its carapace gleaming like polished obsidian under the streetlamp. It raised a massive pincer, scanning for prey. The team held their breath, knowing one wrong move would mean meeting the Yeerk's favorite enforcer head-on.
Reader's Guide
The Taxxon military structure is rigidly hierarchical under Yeerk command. While they retain some individuality, their primary motivation shifts to obeying the controlling Yeerk worm within them. High-ranking Vissers direct large squads of these armored infantry into combat zones where brute force is required against human resistance or Andalite defenders. Their culture was once distinct on Taxxon Prime, but centuries of slavery have turned them into a warrior caste defined by aggression and survival instincts rather than tradition.
Relationships with humans are strictly adversarial; they view uninfested humans as prey or obstacles to be removed. The Animorphs frequently encounter them during infiltration missions, recognizing the clicking sounds of their carapaces as a warning signal. Despite their loyalty to the Empire, pockets of resistance exist among the species, hinting at a desire for freedom that occasionally complicates Yeerk operations on Earth.
Their biology makes them dangerous opponents in close quarters. The Animorphs find morphing into Taxxons difficult due to the complex exoskeleton, often risking injury during the process. This physical resilience allows Yeerk commanders to deploy them as suicide units or front-line shields against enemy fire. Ultimately, they represent the tragic cost of galactic slavery, powerful beings stripped of their autonomy to serve a parasitic master across multiple star systems.
